Why does the Stratix V Early Power Estimator version 12.0 SP1 show an extemely high current for VCCR_GXB?

Environment

  • Quartus® II Subscription Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description Due to a problem with the Stratix® V Early Power Estimator (EPE) version 12.0 SP1, the power estimation of VCCR_GXB may be incorrect. If you select 12500 Mbps as the data rate, the estimated current may jump to an extremely high number. This is not an accurate value and is a bug in the EPE.
    Resolution

To work around this problem, use a value of 12499 Mbps as the data rate to allow the EPE to estimate the current consumption for 12.5-Gbps transceivers.

This issue is fixed in the Stratix V EPE version 12.0 SP2.
