Troubleshooting tips when your computer cannot read Intel® Solid State Drives
Intel® Solid State Drives cannot be recognized in the system and BIOS.
Check your hardware
- Make sure all cables and ports are clean, dirt-free and are not damaged.
- Try different cables and ports if possible.
- Test a known working drive on the current port.
- Make sure the drive is connected directly to the motherboard. Intel® SSDs connected by an adapter/dongle/enclosure may not be detected in the OS and the Intel® Memory and Storage Tool.
- If there is another system available, check the SSD in that system.
Check your system BIOS
- Make sure the motherboard is running the latest BIOS version. Check with the system vendor to download the latest.
- Confirm in the motherboard user guide that all settings are correct for the type of drive that is being used.
Make sure you have the latest drivers and firmware Installed
- If the SSD is a PCIe* NVMe* drive (Intel® SSD model names that have a 'p' in them are based on the PCIe* interface), make sure the latest Intel NVMe drivers are installed.
- Windows* only: Client SSD NVMe drivers and Datacenter NVMe drivers.
- Linux*: Confirm with your OS provider's support site that the latest drivers are installed.
- Make sure the SSD is using the latest firmware available.
Note If you purchased your device from an original equipment manufacture (OEM), check the vendor support site for the latest firmware.
