System Event Log shows Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe*) Fatal Error reports a fatal PCI Express Completion Timeout error

Resolution

Steps to address error message: CRITICAL event: PCIe* Fatal Error reports a fatal PCI Express* Completion Timeout error. (BUS:0x00, DEV:0x01, FUN:0x00)

  1. Decode the bus, device, and function to identify the card.
  2. If this is an add-in card:
    1. Verify the card is inserted properly.
    2. Install the card in another slot and check if the error follows the card or stays with the slot.
    3. Update all firmware and drivers, including non-Intel components.
  3. If this is an on-board device:
    1. Update all Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), firmware, and drivers.
    2. Replace the board.
