Which flash devices from Macronix are supported for Intel® Stratix® 10 FPGA Active Serial configuration?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

    The following Macronix* MX66U devices can be used as replacement devices for EPCQ-L devices to support Intel® Stratix® 10 FPGA Active Serial configuration in the Intel Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 18.0.

    • MX66U512
    • MX66U2G

    To enable MX66U support, add the following variable into your quartus.ini file within the project directory:

    pgm_allow_mx66u=on

    If you do not have a quartus.ini file, use a text editor to create it, add the above variable, and save this file as quartus.ini into your project directory or <Quartus Prime install directory>\bin64 (Windows) or <Quartus Prime install directory>/linux64 (Linux). When you open your project after adding the above variable, you should be able to see MX66U devices in the Convert Programming File tool.

    Since MX66U devices are not listed in the Configuration Device setting under Configuration category of “Device and Pin Options” in the Intel Quartus Prime Pro Edition Software, use the Convert Programming File tool to generate a JIC programming file for Active Serial configuration with a MX66U device.

    Resolution

    The current MX66U flash devices support is limited to JIC file programming only. MX66U devices support for Active Serial configuration scheme without the above variable is fixed in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 18.1.
