Alstom Energizes Mobile Computing with Intel® Atom™ Processors
Headquartered near Paris, Alstom is a global leader in the world of power generation, power transmission, and rail infrastructure. As part of its commitment to developing innovative solutions, it has formed a strategic relationship with Intel to build technologies for smart grids and smart cities.
Laurent Schmitt, vice president of smart grid solutions at Alstom, wanted a new mobile computing device that would support three distinct usage models. He needed to access his core office applications to stay productive while on the move, but he also wanted to stay up to date with social networks and other personal content. It was also important that the device would act as a strong tool for showcasing Alstom’s energy management application, which is offered to end customers to help them track their energy bills.
“We wanted to find a device that would meet these three usage models and enable our employees to work more effectively in any location,” says Schmitt. “We needed a device that offered good manageability from a business perspective. And it had to align with our security requirements. Strong connectivity was also important.”
