  • It's easy to dismiss 2-in-1 laptops as a gimmick but their utility isn't hard to see. Yesterday's laptops were all about uniformity. They were standardized tools in the hands of a workforce that was consistent, if inflexible. Today's laptops are of a diff...

Good: Silent, fanless operation, good value for money, very useful tablet standalone mode, stylus and keyboard included

    Bad: Screen not very bright

I've previously written about my choice of a Surface Pro 4, and the main reason I selected the Core M3-powered version. Well, Acer has come along with a nifty tablet/notebook hybrid of its own which manages to eliminate any need for a low powered processo...

Good: For its price class, the Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 delivers excellent performance in a wellthoughtout design, and it includes a great keyboard.

Bad: While the display is good, it's not as contrasty or vivid as the OLED models on other 2in1s. And it's got a middling pen system

Acer manages to roll premium construction and smart design, better-than-average performance, decent battery life and an excellent keyboard into a reasonably priced 2-in-1 tablet. The battery life could be a little better and the easily hit power button ma...

  • It's a lot to ask a machine to be both a laptop and a tablet, but Acer comes damn close to nailing it with its new Switch Alpha 12. To make it work, Acer had to get weird with design.Local pricing for the Acer Switch Alpha 12 hasn't been officially announ...

  • Good: Liquidcooled goodness, Very wellpriced, Thin and light

Bad: Single USBC port, Not exactly original

There's no denying – not even from Acer – that the Surface Pro line has inspired Microsoft's partners to follow suit in the 2-in-1 laptop category. With that forgone conclusion out of the way, Acer's success with its new Switch Alpha 12 depends more on ho...

2 Conflict-Free Intel Processor

“Conflict free” and “conflict-free” means “DRC conflict free”, which is defined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission rules to mean products that do not contain conflict minerals (tin, tantalum, tungsten and/or gold) that directly or indirectly finance or benefit armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) or adjoining countries. Intel also uses the term "conflict-free" in a broader sense to refer to suppliers, supply chains, smelters and refiners whose sources of conflict minerals do not finance conflict in the DRC or adjoining countries. Intel processors manufactured before January 1, 2013 are not confirmed conflict free. The conflict free designation refers only to product manufactured after that date. For Intel Boxed Processors, the conflict free designation refers to the processor only, not to any additional included accessories, such as heatsinks/coolers.
